Mill Bastard File 150mm

Excellent for sharpening side and base edges

When using a file, always use a file guide; it should be comfortable to hold in your hand and have a clamping system to hold the file or polishing stones securely. File guides made to a specific bevel are always more accurate than adjustable bevel guides. Also, choose guides that are made for either base or side edge only, not a combination of the two.

Using the file
Make sure your file is clean and the teeth are sharp before you start. If the file is dirty and the teeth clogged, use a file brush to remove debris. Use the brush side for general cleaning and the metal side for stubborn clogs. Files are directional, with the tang being the tail of the file. Make long overlapping strokes until the correct bevel is achieved.

Tip: Use a magic marker and color the entire width of the edge. When all of the color has been removed during filing, the edge is at the same bevel as the tool used. After filing, use a polishing stone mounted in the file guide to remove any striations and further polish the edge.
