To remove sidewall material
Used to remove excess sidewall material before filing. Make sure the blade is sharp before using your sidewall planer. If it is dull it may be rotated around to a sharp edge.
Place the sidewall plane against the base edge of the ski or snowboard. Adjust the blade to the proper width by adjusting the allen head screw with the supplied wrench. The blade should be adjusted so it removes the sidewall material but is not in contact with the metal edge.

Adjust the planer so that the blade will cut the sidewall up to, but not including, the metal edge.
Set the cutting depth using the 2 thumb screws on the top of the tool. Adjust the planer to remove no more than 0.2 to 0.3 mm of material. Make one long pass down the length of the ski/snowboard, pulling the sidewall plane. Keep a smooth and steady speed, applying consistent, light downward pressure on the tool. The removed sidewall material should appear as long curly “q’s”. If the tools skips, readjust the height making sure the tool is still level with the edge.
